Soap made from vegetable oils has the outstanding feature compared to all other washing-active substances that, immediately after use, it combines with the lime that is always present in the wastewater to form lime soap, thereby neutralizing its effect on living organisms, primary degradation. The lime soap is then broken down 100 percent into carbon dioxide and water by microorganisms, secondary degradation.
According to the OECD, SOAP is easily biodegradable.
